Struttin' with Some Barbecue

Last Saturday, we were in the mood for some barbecue.  We had driven around a little earlier in the day and found a place nearby called Pok-E-Jos Smokehouse.  It was obviously a chain, so I was a little skeptical at first.  We got in and could see the various meats and sides and were to select what we wanted on our plates.  My husband got the 3 meat plate with brisket, chicken, and sausage.  His two sides were potato salad and a jalapeno corn casserole.  I got the two meat plate with pork and turkey with broccoli salad and baked potato casserole as sides.  Every meal comes with a slice of Texas toast, too.  We also could choose from original or spicy sauce.  I went for the original and my husband picked the spicy.  Everything we tried was great!  I especially loved the turkey and pork, which were our favorite meats.  I felt the brisket was a little bit fatty and that the chicken was a little dry.  The sides were excellent too.  I liked that the broccoli salad had almost an Italian type dressing with onions and peppers as well.  The baked potato casserole reminded me of my PopPop's twice baked potatoes.  The potato salad was a combination of a mustard based and German style potato salad.  All in all, everything was delicious and we will definitely be making a return for more barbecue.  On another note, I am looking forward to another Texas adventure.  This weekend we are going to visit our friends in Sugar Land, TX before we head back to St. Louis for Thanksgiving.  I can't wait to share all our adventures!
